WE OPPOSE THE HURLEY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AS CURRENTLY DRAFTED
The drafted comprehensive plan, as presented in a public hearing earlier this years, is fatally-flawed.
It was crafted in secret by select members of the Town Board and outside interests after the Supervisor disbanded the standing citizen-run comprehensive plan committee, without explanation.
Hurley community organizations and businesses were excluded from providing input into its development.
Surveys of town residents were done when the town’s website, email, social media and other communications systems were in disarray, significantly limiting public awareness or engagement.
The current survey is filled with LEADING QUESTIONS (the survey is designed to encourage responses sought by supporters of the proposed comprehensive plan and offers no background or context for responses).
The currently-proposed plan will:
increase property taxes and local housing costs,
squeeze-out the middle class and those on fixed incomes,
fail to address the housing crises,
create a hostile small business environment,
limit property-owner rights,
grow town government spending and add new layers of bureaucracy and regulations.
transform Hurley into a ‘museum/park’ benefiting second homeowners at the expense of local residents.
